For Bible Study this week, our readings were Matthew 15 and Mark 7, chapters filled with wonderful parables and incredible miracles. One of our favorite stories was that of Jesus feeding the four thousand:
“Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.” ~ Matthew 15: 36-38
Our cook for our monthly Family Fun events has thought of this miracle many times when peeling potatoes, or grilling burgers for the Family Fun’s home-cooked dinner. When we held the first Family Fun event in August 2012, there were 12 participants in attendance. Last December, the number of folks who came out was close to 50. And as we don’t require an RSVP, we just never know how many participants to cook for!
“Fishes and loaves, fishes and loaves,” our cook will mutter under her breath as the cars keep rolling into the parking lot at Peaceful Point Farm. And miraculously in the five years we have held this monthly event, we have always had enough food to feed our participants, and there is almost always enough for folks to take some home with them. Praise be to God!
